- | for Metro BBS |
- | by |

- +------------------------+
-
- The following files should be included in your Trivia package:
-
- DOOR9 <-- the main program
- TRIVIA.DOC <-- this documentation
- TRIV-OP.DAT <-- text file with trivia operator's name in it
- MENU.DAT <-- text file with categories and file names
- GENERAL-1 <-- text file of general trivia questions
- ROCK-1 <-- text file of rock 'n roll trivia questions
- STARTREK-1 <-- text file of Star Trek trivia questions
- TURTLE-1 <-- text file of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle questions
-
- TRIV-OP.DAT is a three-line text file. The first line has the name of the
- trivia operator. The second line is the user-id number of your remote trivia
- operator, who takes care of the related files. If there is no remote
- operator, other than the sysop, enter a 0 for the second line. The third
- line should be YES if you want the correct answers to be shown after a wrong
- answer is given. NO if you do not. This file can be changed from within
- Metro-Trivia in the Maintenance Area.
-
- MENU.DAT is a text file of the categories of questions that will be available
- to the players. There is a maximum of 20 categories allowed. Each category
- requires a two-line entry. The lines are:
-
- 1. The description that will appear on-screen
- 2. The name of the file with the questions and answers
-
- An example:
-
- General Trivia #1
- GEN-1
- General Trivia #2
- GEN-2
- Beatles Trivia #1
- BEAT-1
- Movie Trivia
- MOVIE
-
- In the above example, the player would be given the choice of:
-
- 1 General Trivia #1
- 2 General Trivia #2
- 3 Beatles Trivia #1
- 4 Movie Trivia
-
- The files GEN-1, GEN-2, BEAT-1 and MOVIE would also have to exist.
-
-
- Q U E S T I O N S
-
- Question files consist of the questions and answers. Each question would
- have five lines. The first is the question and the next four are the
- possible answers. The correct answer starts with an "*". Here's an example:
-
- Who was the Beatles drummer?
- Paul McCartney
- John Lennon
- *Ringo Starr
- George Harrison
- Is Paul McCartney left-handed?
- *Yes
- No
-
-
- Which Beatles album had the "butcher" cover?
- Meat The Beatles
- *Yesterday and Today
- Sgt. Pepper
- Let It Be
-
- Notice that the second question had only two possible answers. The other two
- lines must be entered as blank lines! There must always be four lines for the
- answers.
-
- This format allows the use of trivia files that have been created for the
- TAG BBS. TAG trivia files are exactly the same, except that answers are
- limited to 40 characters.
-
- You may create your question files with any text editor or with TRIVIA itself.
- Users may also offer suggestions while on-line! There questions are saved to
- a file named "USER-QUESTIONS".
-
-
- S C O R E B O A R D
-
- When a player finishes a set of questions, his score is automatically recorded
- in the scorebook if he is in the top ten scores. There is a separate
- scorebook kept for each set of questions. If a question file is named
- "BEAT-1" then the scoreboard file will be named "BEAT-1.SCORE".
-
-
- M A I N T E N A N C E
-
- Only the Sysop or Triv-Op will see "Maintenance" on the main menu. Choosing
- this option will bring up a menu where question files can be created, renamed,
- deleted, and added or deleted from the game menu. Questions can also be
- purged from a file. At the main terminal, the directory can be listed.
- Remote triv-ops cannot do this.
-
-
- H I S T O R Y
-
- V1.0 The original version. Every question in a question file is asked.
- The program keeps track of how many are answered correctly. Score
- files are named with a ".SCR" ending. Question files should be
- small (25-50 questions).
-
- V2.0 Questions are randomely picked from the question files. Betting was
- added. 10 questions are asked and then there are bonus questions.
- Score files are named with a ".SCORE" ending. Question files should
- be large (100's of questions).

-
- Metro-Trivia was written by Mark D. Turner. I've always wondered if a share-
- ware author asked for really low donations if he'd get anything. So, I'm
- calling this program Next-To-Nothing-Ware. Use if forever and ever with
- no strings attached. But, if you think it's slightly worthwhile (or better),
- then pop 25 cents or so into the mail to:
-
- Mark D. Turner
- P.O. Box 64
- Bluefield, VA 24605
-
- You'll never miss the money and if only 100 people send it in, I'll have $25
- to encourage the development of future freebies. Go ahead, surprise me, and
- mail something to me!
-
- I also run a part-time bbs, called The Outer Limits. Currently, it runs from
- 8:00 am to 7:00 pm from Monday-Friday. Frequently, it's on until 10:00 pm
- and weekends, too. Any problems can be reported to me there. The number is
- 304-327-7452. Yeah, that's right, it's a West Virginia number, even though
- the mailing address is in Virginia. We're right at the state line and the
- story isn't anything you'd care to hear.
-
- I hope you find Metro-Trivia of use. I have also released doors titled
- Guess Again!, which is somewhat like The Wheel of Fortune, and Acey Ducey.
- Other ideas are in the works, too. Also, available from me, as stand-alone
- programs, are AutoRay (an AutoCad to Sculpt-3D/4D translator) and Revenge of
- the Invaders.
-
- Have fun (or whatever else turns you on)!
-
- Thanks to Percy Broadnax for creating Metro-BBS and the door routines.
